Blast of brutally cold air expected to hit the Midwest over MLK weekend

If one of your 2019 resolutions was to spend time living in the most frigid region on the face of the earth, there’s good news for you this morning:

An arctic airmass rivaling the one Jake Gyllenhaal had to survive in The Day After Tomorrow will plunge south through the midwest this afternoon through Thursday morning.

Cities across the nation will experience potentially the coldest air ever recorded in the nation’s history.

St. Louis  and Detroit will wake up to wind chills as low as -25 to -30 on Wednesday.  Chicago, Milwaukee and Minneapolis will suffer through -45 to -55 degree wind chills that same morning.

And for all the HIMYM fans out there, the good people of Bemidji, MN will walk outside into air that feels as cold as 65 degrees below zero.

Forecast headlines in Iowa simply read “It’s going to be really, really cold” and some weather maps have run out of colors to depict how absurdly freezing the air will be.

While some presidents who will go unnamed here have decided to take this opportunity to try and assert that global warming isn’t real, it’s too dangerously cold to even pretend to have time for their nonsense.

Meteorologists and government officials alike are warning members of the public to take precautions, noting that the unprecedented temperatures will be “life threatening”.

In Chicago alone, nineteen people have died from the cold since the start of winter late last month.

Individuals facing extreme cold now and throughout the winter season are encouraged to dress in multiple light, warm layers and limit their time outdoors.  Experts also encourage people to travel with an emergency kit in their car, including non-perishable food and warm blankets.

While the cold in Tulsa from this arctic blast will not be as extreme, residents can expect to wake up to wind chills near or below zero Wednesday morning, with highs struggling to make it out of the 20s during the day.

If you’re looking to escape the cold tomorrow, you can always try Antarctica. The forecast high at the McMurdo weather station is expected to be just a bit warmer than some parts of Green Country.
