TULSA, Okla. — Richard Z. Baxter, a respected community leader throughout Tulsa, and his client faces possible charges for intimidating a witness. Although the circumstances surrounding the case are still pending, Baxter turned himself into the David L. Moss Criminal Justice Center just before 1:30 PM today but has already posted bail.
“I’m going to be in and out. I don’t have to change clothes. I do have to take fingerprints. And fight a case through the legal system. The case carries up to 10 years,” he explained in an interview with us just before his booking.
Baxter is the founder and CEO of Baxter and Baxter Life Coaching, where he offers assistance to clients who have encounters with the law and need legal advice.
“He did somethings that he shouldn’t have done, and he got everyone a new change. The client isn’t supposed to talk to anybody else that’s involved in the case. I can’t control what a client does,” Baxter said.

Baxter explained that his client’s actions forced the Tulsa D.A.’s office to file changers against him and his client for seemingly intimidating a witness.
The affidavit hasn’t been published, so Baxter wasn’t able to share further details on the pending case.
However, Baxter doesn’t think he’ll face any time. He has excellent legal representation — Attorney Ciera Freeman. Baxter also knows a thing or two about serving time. He once faced 121 years in an Oklahoma prison but found the keys to his liberation through studying legal cases in the prison library.
“When it comes to who I am and what I’ve done in the community, people can vouch for my character,” he’s also the founder of Racism Stinks, a nonprofit organization that fights and educates people about racism and a college graduate who received honors from TCC — Phi Theta Kappa.

“I’m not going to intimidate a single mother and make her feel fear for her life or anything of that nature. And if I knew any of what was going on,” referring to his client’s situation, “I would have never been a part of this situation or removed myself — given need be. But if I would have known prior to, I would have never even entered into the situation. So, I didn’t know anything about any alleged threats that may have been made. I don’t know anything about harassment or threats. I just know that everyone that was willing to help him in his defense were willing participants. And they contacted me first to help in his defense,” referring to his client and his client’s supporters.
