On a late Tuesday night, The Breakfast Club’s Angela Yee shook the Black Twitterverse when she tweeted, “The Breakfast Club as you know it is officially over [hands making heart emoji].” Going strong since 2010, the podcast turned iHeartradio show that we’ve all grown to love has reached its time of extinction, so we were led to believe by Sis’s shockingly ambiguous tweet.
Yee’s tweet gained over 47,000 likes, 16,000 quote tweets, and 8,000 retweets, sending the phrase The Breakfast Club trending on Twitter.
By 6 am the following day, Angela Yee’s co-hosts, Dj Envy and Charlamagne Tha God brought the conversation on air and had them asking: What exactly did her tweet mean?
Sis’s Tweet was seemingly ambiguous and had many believing that The Breakfast Club was ending, which isn’t the case. So when Angela Yee made the subtle announcement on Twitter, fans were shocked at the decision.
One person angrily tweeted, “I understand leaving your job because you don’t feel appreciated, but if @angelayee really quit @breakfastclubam and didn’t give fans any warning, that’s f*cked up. When you have a following like that, it’s only right to let the people who DO support you know. SMFH” Sis gracefully quote-tweeted a response, saying, “I’m still here for at least a month.”
Questions have arisen from Angela Yee and ??Charlamagne Tha God friendship. Especially, since the interview with Gucci Mane when he put Angela Yee on front street. Gucci claimed she was pressed about him, asking him what hotel he was at. Since the interview, he has made a claim that he was banned from the show because of this conversation.
Since that incident, they both have been able to mend their relationship and continue hosting shows together with artists.
Moreover, others did send supportive tweets: “Congrats to @angelayee on the new show! We are so proud of all of your accomplishments, Queen, and thank you for the countless memories you’ve given us for over a decade with @breakfastclubam. Looking forward to the future.”
Is The Breakfast Club really ending?
When Angela Ye made her tweet, the emphasis was on the part that read “as you know it” meaning, The Breakfast Club “as you know it” is over because Angela Yee is leaving the show to launch her new show, “Way Up with Angela Yee.”
Now, fans will still be able to hear The Breakfast Club with co-host ??Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy, but will have to do so without Sis’s energy.
From the looks of it, her fans Charlamagne Tha God and Dj Envy were seemingly left in the dark by her shocking announcement. At least that’s the impression they are giving off. However, both co-hosts have expressed their happiness and extended congratulations to Angela on her new show.
When will “Way Up with Angela Yee” begin?
The biggest thing to know is that until “Way Up with Angela Yee” begins, Yee will remain on The Breakfast Club.
According to an iHeatRadio press release, “Way up with Angela Yee” launches this fall and be a weekday program that airs middays on iHeartMedia stations, including New York’s Power 105.1.
The show will feature the iconic personality in a fast-paced, listener-interactive show. Yee will talk about hot topics from Hip-Hop and R&B to headline news and overall culture, both in and out of the music industry, in which she’s gained a loyal following over the years. Celebrity interviews and special guests will be included in the show, which promises to be entertaining, inspiring, and fun.
Lastly, there will be no change to Yee’s “Lip Service”; she will continue it and host both shows.
