Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Gary Chambers of Louisiana is back again with his eye-catching ads. Last month, Chambers made a 37-second ad where he was smoking weed while pointing out the outdated marijuana laws and their impact on Black people.
The Senate hopeful stated “I hope this ad works to not only destigmatize the use of marijuana, but also forces a new conversation that creates the pathway to legalize this beneficial drug, and forgive those who were arrested due to outdated ideology.”
Gary Chambers’ team released a new ad today called “Scars and Bars” where he burns the Confederate flag to promote removing confederate based issues from America once and for all.
“They said ‘we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.’ But here in Louisiana, and all over the South, Jim Crow never really left and the remnants of the Confederacy remain.”
“The attack against Black people, our right to vote and participate in this democracy are methodical,” the Gary Chambers ad continues.
Voting rights legislation stalled in Congress
Congress has strung along two voting rights bills since Democrats gained a majority in 2020.
The Freedom to Vote Act guards US elections against voter suppression, partisan sabotage, gerrymandering, and dark money. While concurrently, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act modernizes the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and strengthens legal protections against discriminatory voting policies and practices.
Both bills have failed to pass multiple votes.
“Our system isn’t broken,” Gary Chambers says. “It’s designed to do exactly what it’s doing, which is producing measurable inequity.”
